I have been hearing a lot about the Bicol region and whoever tells me i must go there have however been lacking in telling me exactly where and what to do.
My husband and i have two kids 6 and 2 and we want to visit a nice beach, take in the volcanoes and generally just relax with our chilldren. The most famous landmark of Bicol is the Mayon Volcano in Legaspi City, Albay but I don't go there to enjoy its beaches as I am not a fan of black sand beaches. Camarines Norte has a beautiful beach named Calaguas Island. If you want to have a rustic experience, then this is the beach for you. It has a long stretch of white sand beach.
Survivor Serbia and Survivor India were shot here. Legazpi is where the perfect cone shape Mayon Volcano is. For Caramoan, you need at least 3 days, 2 nights. Airport of Entry: Naga City. You can read about it here: tripadora. Caramoan Island Hopping: tripadora.
But if you want to see the Volcano, your airport of entry from Manila should be Legazpi. From Legazpi, you can go to sorsogon for the whale sharks.
I love the Philippines , its islands, the people, the daily live. But the region of Bicol is something special in the Philippines. One thing I find rather amazing in Philippines: With all this mix of people from origins from allover, like from Spain, Mexico, USA, Japan , China, Indonelia, Malaysia etc, the Philippines etc have never managed to make eating a real delight. Food in Philippines is for survival. Most of it is greasy and rather tasteless, maybe bitter. Other Asians refere to Philippine food as rather not worth mentioning- But the answer to that is: BICOL: There you find an autentic and very variated and delicious food supply.
