They are simply looking on the computer. The criminal record doesn't affect the timeline. A person with misrepresentation or overstaying or an immigration offence can have just as long a timeline. That means your file could be sitting in a pile a meter thick and the person working through it can simply be inefficient, slow, or even on sick leave.
