In the days before email, decades ago, when designers first started having scanners in the office, I had a bad experience with a print representative who was a con artist. This con artist had just called on these clients. This experience is extremely paraphrased as it was a much more complicated and drawn-out process than what I could convey here. I strongly implore you to look elsewhere; they are a con artist.
Lo and behold, he pulled the same con on them, and he blamed ME for the problems! I will try again. I was working on a hundred-page program for a client that was filled with photos on each page. I got a call from my client to come to her office because there was a problem. The print rep was there with the designs, and they looked bad. All the photos were muddy. As we went through them, he pointed out what was wrong with each photo.
They all had to be rescanned at a rush charge and then dropped into the document. The photos looked fine on screen and from our laser printer. Of course, Mr. Sadly, the client agreed to the charges, and off he went. Less than two days later, Mr. Con Artist was there with perfect proofs. They were beautiful. We started going through the photos, and I asked how they could have touched up all the photos so quickly.
So, I asked him again if they did any work on the photos. He basically claimed that their scanner had magically fixed each picture, but I had the proof that I had fixed each picture and sent perfect versions to them. At first, he tried to claim that they must have done it, but I had brought printouts of each photo with me. There were still ninety pages to go.
He said there would be no extra charges and left. You expect us to go through that again?! Of course not! This time, [Con Artist] told them that they had retouched all the photos. He at least got smarter. I sat in a meeting with the client and her boss. I told them that they had been warned, and they could have called my other client.
