Contact Admin. First of all, why do most archaeologists and internet skeptics claim that there is no evidence for the Exodus? The answer is they're looking in the wrong place - or more accurately, in the wrong time.
For years, the consensus among archaeologists has been that Rameses II was the Pharaoh of the exodus. This view comes primarily from the Bible itself:. They appointed brutal slave drivers over them, hoping to wear them down with crushing labor.
They forced them to build the cities of Pithom and Rameses as supply centers for the king. Since this passage seems to indicate that the Israelites built the city of Pi-Rameses, which was completed under Ramses II, most scholars established a view of the Exodus that must take place during the reign of Rameses II of the 19th dynasty sometime in the 13th century BC - and have held ardently to this view even to this day. And, as many scholars and archaeologists have stated, there is absolutely no evidence for the Israelites in Egypt during the 13th century BC.
However, if we look more closely at the Biblical text, we will see that the Bible doesn't actually place the Exodus in the 13th century BC - it places it years earlier, in the 15th century BC.
There are four independent passages that indicate as much. We can combine this with information from the book of 1 Kings:. So if Solomon ascended to king in BC, then the fourth year of his reign would have been BC, which, according to the text, is years after the Israelites left Egypt. Therefore, according to this passage, the Exodus began in BC. In the second passage, we will see Jephthah speak to the king of Ammon about the ongoing Ammonite oppression.
