In response to pirate attacks, the city was fortified in the 17th century and 2 hilltop fortresses are now museums. It was hot as hell, as well as high humidity during the day, but it slightly cooled off at night. Why Campeche? Traveling to Campeche completed my goal of visiting every state in Mexico; 32 of Note: I flew to Campeche out of Tijuana and back only using my passport card. A passport book is not required. All the money I quote is in pesos, unless you see the dollar sign. CBX round trip was around 50 bucks.
