Birmingham's largest ever street-drinking ban has been secured by police covering the east of the city in a desperate attempt to cut down on anti-social behaviour.
The alcohol restricted area will cover the entire east Birmingham local policing unit which includes Yardley, Acocks Green, Sparkbrook, Sparkhill and parts of Moseley.
At present the city has a patchwork of alcohol restricted areas based around shopping parades and public parks, but residents claim that this simply displaces the problem to an area where there is no ban.
East Birmingham police had previously applied for a total ban but were told by council licensing chiefs to come back with evidence of anti-social behaviour. This week cops revealed that there had been incidents in Acocks Green, while there had been more than in the Sparkhill area over a day period.
