Operation to raid underage prostitution racket in Matara Video Thursday, 31 December - The lives of two girls aged 14 and 15 are being ruined due to ignorant parents as well as the society neglecting their responsibility to take care of children.
The eldest girl had told another woman about their poverty situation since they did not have money to make ends meet. The woman who was a mother of one child had deviously plotted to engage the two girls in prostitution under the guise of giving her a job. The year-old woman has been arrested. The Matara Divisional Children and Women's Bureau also arrested two three-wheeler drivers who were involved in the racket.
Police also arrested a hotel owner in the Pamburana area who had engaged the girls in the racket and had prepared a fake identity card for the girl by overstating the age.
The Matara Divisional Children and Women's Bureau is conducting investigations to find a Colombo woman who is leading the racket. The two girls have been admitted to the hospital. The four suspects were remanded until January 11 after being produced before the Matara Magistrate's Court.
