A mix up with the schedule found us with absolutely no publicity, but the small audience made up for that with their amazing enthusiasm. The nice custom boot maker from just ouside of O. And yesβ¦. So many terrific new friends in the audienceβ¦. It was a great nightβ¦. On the way down we got to hook up our new XM satelite radio. Just before the show, Carrie and I went out to the car to listen to us do our guest DJ segment on XM β we got to play whatever we likedβ¦.
It was a loose fun show where I injected a spur-of-the-moment tribute to Hank Ballard who recently passed awayβ¦. Nice talking with you both! Hope the picture of you and Carrie turns out O. All the best with your own stuff! JIM β nobody should be allowed to retire so young!
What a great night! Several thousand people jammed the place and the reaction to our show, here where Carrie was raised, was awesome. Willie was thereβ¦. Lucinda as well β¦β¦. We have a big day ahead of usβ¦. John Jackson kindly gave us and toast to a great couple of years!! Thanks Jason for having us play at your cool place and hi to your talented momβ¦. Celebrated later with a sip of Dr. Lu and the crowd wanted moreβ¦. Carrie and I were getting ready to record our new album when she suggested that we try some of our new songs for an audience.
We went to a meeting room at their New York office and had a great time playing for the behind-the-scenes people. BMI is one of the companies who collects for songwriters. I woke up to a call from Bert Pijper, our record company guy in the Netherlands. The festival committee was asking us to fill in. Although we were scheduled to go into the studio to begin recording, we were happy to push it back a couple of days and make a quick trip overseas.
So with my old friend and bass player Tony Mercadante we flew to Holland. We arrived early in the morning after an overnight flight and went right to sleep at our hotel. We got enough rest to have a great night at the local pub with our Dutch friends and several of the artists on the festival bill, including Buddy Miller, Gurf Morlix and Greg Trooper. We had an absolutely great time but I may have stayed too late and drank too much with legendary DJ Hubert.
