Just for Khao San Road one week is too much but nobody prevents you from visiting the rest of Bangkok and the neighbouring provinces like Samut Prakan for Ancient City. No need to be paranoid. However, there will be some locals and foreigners who will try to scam you. No difference to other tourist areas in Bangkok. Not bigger or less than anywhere else. How far would you trust someone who has interacted with you for a few hours in your own country? It depends on which kind of nightlife you want.
The neighbourhood has discos, music bars, pool bars, and plain restaurants. I have not seen agogo bars or karaoke. The most important thing is not getting too drunk although the bars are selling cheap buckets of spirits and mixer. Sometimes there are big crowds, so pickpockets can be a risk, although I'm not aware of any incidents.
Not traveling solo would not help with that, anyway. Way too long! You'll be bored after 3 or 4 days shopping. Nothing else in Bangkok but temples and how many of them can you do??
