Contact Admin. Is tipping after a massage a common thing!!! If so, how much is a reasonable amount to tip the masseuse!! I think most masseurs work primarily for tips and the place where they work keeps most of the money. For a regular Thai Massage, the going rate is bhat in most places. I usually tip 50 bhat a little over 1 USD and they seem pleased. If they were really good I give bhat.
It is probably a bit higher than some might give, but for me it is what I pay for coffe at home and they really appreciate it and deserve it for the quality of service that they provide. If you are talking about massages with "extras", you are in a whole different tipping situation and I will let others reply there By the way, the best low cost reflexology and thai massage place that I found is at the Bossotel on the road that leads to the Shangri-La.
I am addicted to both Thai and foot massages and get one of each everyday I am in Thailand. I definitely believe in tipping and remember that some of these folks only get to do one or two massages a day there are a lot of people to compete with for the work. I tip probably too much - but I like knowing I am helping someone who just gave me so much pleasure and who does not have the same opportunities in life as I do about 50 baht per hour. For a 2-hour massage, I will give at least I'm talking about your average massage place, Wat Pho or Bossotel as previously mentioned or any number of others on every corner of the city.
I don't know what the fancier spas like Oriental, etc. It was nice but not as good as the ones you can get from the smaller places like Bossotel. I can also recommend Apsara Spa on Silom Reasonably priced and attractive, slightly upscaledecor. Near the Saladaeng BTS stop and Siam Sawasdee in that same location no frills here but it is the absolute best for foot reflexology. I must admit this was a worry for us- we were at Divana a couple of weeks ago and being Australian, and not really used to tipping, we didn't.
