My aim with this website has always been to try to give visitors the information they want and for many years the information on this page was geared towards the seedier side of Hat Yai's nightlife scene. I am making this update at the end of and there have been enormous changes during the last few years that I need to explain.
Many of the places I previously provided information about have now closed and Hat Yai is now a very different place to the Hat Yai I first visited in Chaophya 4 in When I first arrived in town there were many establishments catering to the needs of visiting gentlemen and it was all very open with nothing hidden away. The first noticeable change came a few years later when posters of scantily clad females were removed from the outside of the buildings.
Obviously, the intention was to make the industry lower key. The same place in Prior to this it was very clear what went on inside, but after the posters were removed it wasn't quite so obvious. I never really went to these places, not because I'm prudish or anything, but because commercial sex never really appealed to me and I preferred having girlfriends in Hat Yai.
