Operation Mincemeat is one of the latest Netflix films. It tells the story of a British covert operation during World War II to fool the Nazis into thinking the Allies would attack Greece when in reality the plan was to attack Sicily.
This was an actual successful operation that helped cement the Allied victory over the Nazi regime and the Axis forces.
So, what was this operation about? Well, basically dropping a corpse disguised as a British soldier near the coast of Spain, and hoping that the fake documents and letters he carries reach all the way to the Nazi top in hopes that they lower their defenses on Sicily so that the British can attack and free the city.
This movie is not a revolutionary tale, however, it certainly knows how to use internal and external conflict to its advantage. When watching a movie, it is usually more engaging, compelling, and overall interesting if we have two main conflicts that are closely intertwined. Even if one of them is not as upfront and has lower stakes than the other.
However, we have another conflict brewing slowly in the background. We have two main characters who are in charge of this operation. Ewen Montagu and Charles Cholmondeley. Although they are both men of duty, and initially become friends, the arrival of Jean Leslie starts creating jealousy and suspicion amongst both men, since they are both interested in her romantically.
