Great place, lovely to relax in the morning - with the Tai Chi. If you are travelling on your own, which I was - you will get hounded by prostitutes and pimps. Ignore them by sticking your headphones in, I chose a relaxing zen album to kick back too. Take a few hours out of your day and walk along The Bund.
The old stone buildings are amazing and a stark contrast to the 'new Shanghai'. Drop into one of the many patisseries, pick up some lunch, sit by the river and watch the world go by. Nice walk whilst enjoying the river views, the classic buildings and some people watching. If you're Western be prepared to be asked to be in a photo or two. Loved this both at night and during the day. We spent the day on the modern side, going up the tower and enjoying the views across to old shanghai.
We then got the train through the tunnel to get under the river to old town. The train gives you "a light experience" which is ok. We returned to the bund at dusk to see the lights. Well worth the visit, although it was very cold when we were there and the wind was biting! There are boats on the river which obviously do night cruises to take in the vista and I think these would be worth investigating. We have some wonderful photos and video of this.
The views across the river to the new high rise modern buildings is amazing. The architecture is inspiring and exciting.
