Of course you will visit Old Town when visiting Bucharest and there are lots of bars and restaurants but there is also a huge sex industry so beware if you have children. Friendly, safe and great value. Everything is close by and prices are broadly the same wherever you go. Old Town is a must visit with so much history, architecture and wonderful restaurants.
Take a deep look to discover more than the passing tourist and you will discover the true culture of Bucharest. Old Town is the place to go out at night, huge cluster of clubs and bars.
Are these place nice, over all during the summer its nice to sit out and people watch, if you can get a table and get a waiter. Most waiters are very rude, it is Bucharest, and the service is medium and the food is over priced and poor quality. Most of the old architecture is just a wall behind it is not even a building, if you go into less popular zones it gets very dirty. Its very dirty any way but it gets very dirty on the outskirts.
Clubs are very smoky and loud, the bars too inside, it is a big problem here. This old part of Bucharest will definitely be the new Eldorado for tourists in several years.
Do not forget other districts of Bucharest which worth a visit and are also old: Cotroceni, Primavarii, Kiseleff Avenue, Hebrew district What I love about this place is the mixture of different styles which basically defines Bucharest. Even if most turists try to compare it with something they've seen before, it will never be like that. Bear in mind that everything in Bucharest is made by the locals for the locals. There are now small attempts to "touristify" it but hopefully it will be far from the circus-like crowding that you might find in other capital cities.
