A month ago, I was sitting down taking my finals in a classroom in Copenhagen. My family came at the end for a couple days before we all went to Barcelona. But then leaving seemed surreal- it kind of still does. I will definitely miss my host family- I already do- much as I will miss DIS and the ability to travel country-to-country so easily. Although I am jumping back completely into this world, I am definitely a different person. The people I met, the experiences I had, and the information that I learned, all shape the person I want to be- as a student, an American, and an advocate for social justice.
After being gone just long enough to reflect on my time in Denmark from a less clouded a. To everyone who has read my blog throughout the semester, thank you for sticking with me! I hope I was able to share some interesting experiences and give you a better understanding of what it was like to be living in Denmark as both a student and a member of a Danish family for 4 months.
A lot. Mostly because I love the aroma of it filling coffee shops, transporting me into a cozy or as Danes would say, hyggelig atmosphere. Well that, and because it tastes so good and gives me a burst of caffeine when I need it.
Copenhagen is home to many types of coffee shops, ranging from white-walled, floored, tabled, plated, cupped, whatevered, environments to intimate, candle-laden atmospheres.
Here are my Top 6, but I encourage you to read blogs of Danes online to find more, and just to wander. Disclaimer: All coffee in Copenhagen is expensive, regardless of where you go. Pick the place that you like the most so that you are also paying for the atmosphere. Baresso: I had to start out with this chain, because it was definitely the place I frequented most.
